Education in Hong Kong is Rotten

Just saw an article talking about the Education of Hong Kong in Kung Kao Pao (a local weekly Catholic newspaper), here quotes from the article,
<<<
We would like to provide a joyful learning environment to our next generations, but DO NOT offer anything that pupils dislike to learn. For example, pupils are not required to recite because they dislike to recite, as a result pupils' memory were rotten; three-fourth of writings are replaced by images in textbooks because pupils dislike textbooks full of words, the consequence is that pupils get fewer chances to learn vocabulary; pupils are not punished for wrongdoings because they dislike being punished for wrongdoings and we are afraid they would be hurt by punishment, so they became no discipline and are unable to face difficulties. At the same time, pupils do not respect teachers. Governmental staff of Education Department worked with parents, pupils and media to facilitate the atmosphere of not paying respect to teachers.

It is true, this is the real situation of education in Hong Kong, kids are indulged by Governmental staff of Education, by many parents, by our bad media. It is miserable to see we Chinese, had a long tradition of respecting scholars and masters, and of placing great importance to knowledge. i pray to God to grant us those Governmental staff for Education Department having long-term vision to our education policy, able to understand what are good to our next generations, insist to promote values of learning and to respect teachers, relief the administrative burden of our teachers, and to be brave to confront the bad values of media.

God's Ways of Doing Things

Last October before i took a vacation, it was a Friday, i prepared a mail to my colleague to leave my outstanding jobs. During the briefing of the contents of the mail, my colleague was trying to find faults in the contents, in Chinese, there is a proverb of "picking bones from eggs" which conveys the exact meaning. My intention was only to provide the colleague some traceable information in case when queries arisen from someone involving in these jobs, so i was so furious to question the colleague, "if you don't need the mail, just throw it away", and stopped our conversation.

During the weekend, i felt i was wrong to be extremely angry about the colleague. i remembered that Jesus taught us to let the one who slapped my left face, also allowed to slap my right face. But i didn't have strength to do so, i did the opposite - violence against violence, such way of doing things does not please God. God's ways of doing things are totally different from human's natural ways. God's wisdom is far beyond human's reach, thanks Jesus, Son of God, who has revealed to us that God is love. Thus, God's way of doing things is through love and with love. Violence will definitely be out of the vocabulary of God.

In a Sunday Mass, i confessed the sin. i asked God to give me chance to say sorry in order to reconcile with the colleague. Then the next Monday, before my flight aboard at night, i worked half-day and said sorry to the colleague, asked the colleague to accept my apology. The colleague replied that both of us were in bad mood that day and we are reconciled, thanks be to God!

Why Go to Church?

Just received a mail talking about this,
<<<
A Church goer wrote a letter to the editor of a newspaper and complained that it made no sense to go to church every Sunday. "I've gone for 30 years now," he wrote, "and in that time I have heard something like 3,000 sermons. But for the life of me, I can't remember a single one of them... So, I think I'm wasting my time and the pastors are wasting theirs by giving sermons at all."

This started a real controversy in the "Letters to the Editor" column, much to the delight of the editor. It went on for weeks until someone wrote this clincher:

"I've been married for 30 years now. In that time my wife has cooked some 32,000 meals. But, for the life of me, I cannot recall the entire menu for a single one of those meals. But I do know this... They all nourished me and gave me the strength I needed to do my work. If my wife had not given me these meals, I would be physically dead today. Likewise, if I had not gone to church for nourishment, I would be spiritually dead today!"

Respect Kids

Today when i confessed to a father about my sin. He told me that kids very often talk to their guardian angels and children are welcomed by Jesus. We adult should respect them with care and love. Do not command them to do this and that. I remembered that in Old Testament, we are taught not to irritate kids.

Last October, i went to Europe with my friends and my family. At that time, my son was less than 4 months old. When we passed the custom in Switzerland, one foreigner saw that my wife was carrying such small baby, she admired us that we respected the baby even he was very small. In fact, when i talked about this trip with my colleagues, they would comment that the baby cannot learn anything when travelling aboard and it would be troublesome to go trips with such a tiny baby; some would even consider at the money perspective.

To respect kids, in fact, is to respect life, because life is precious and created by God. Nowadays, people used to use many different types of contraceptive methods to intervene the process of conception, but to enjoy sex in an irresponsible manner. People thought that everything is under their control including life, but don't realize that without God, no life can be produced in intercourse. No respect to life would make a lot of parents feel that kids are burden, cost money and of course, no gratitude to God.

Marketing

Today i read a brochure sent by Hong Kong and ShangHai Bank (HSBC) about its new offer of cash reward on expenditure via credit card. It is written that the cash rebate can be up to 2%. In fact, on normal spending only 0.4% would be debit to the credit card account. To earn the 1.6% more, the credit card user needs to owe the bank for a certain amount and of course have to pay the monthly interest rate of 2% or even more!

More specifically, it means that if you want to get a discount of 2%, please pay me 2% of the amount. How wonderful the wordings our worldwide marketing strategies are provided to the consumers!

Beware of Adultery

At night, many couples were having dinner together. One of my friends warned the husbands (at that moment there were 4 men) to beware of adultery. She said that one husband will go to ShangHai on Monday, another to United Kingdom on Monday; one would go to Beijing and another would go to some asian countries for work. All of us should take great care about temptation of adultery when aboard. One wife added that commit adultery would not necessarily be aboard, could be in local country if not beware of it.

Commit adultery is in human history for a long long time, from the Old Testament (or much earlier) to present. It becomes much more common for the open-mindedness in sexuality. Hence, to build up a family couples must pay great attention to avoid temptation of adultery.

The friend told us a way to gain power over temptation is to worship God.
