Future Leaders

One day in the morning, i was suddenly aware of the fact that today's children will be the future leaders of our city, country. But our education system has been adversely harmed by the education department which have no vision but short-sighted plans resulted in many poor plans in the past 10 years. In additions, the bad press media which always boosts little news have "educated" this generation with bad values. One time, i felt ironic that we have big tabloid - Apple Daily - and small newspaper - Metro - in Hong Kong.

Had these thoughts in mind made me worry about how our future leaders will be nurtured in the environment full of poor education system and bad media. God, our heavenly Father, please bless us with good education policy makers and good media producers in order to help grow our next generations.

Democracy in Hong Kong

On Dec 22 2005, Legislators voted down a government proposal to expand an 800-member panel that will pick the government leader in 2007 elections. The main reason was that the pro-democracy members does not agree the proposal does not contain a timetable about fully democratic for the election of the government leader.

Last Sunday, i read a column in the Kung Kao Po (Catholic weekly newspaper in Hong Kong) written by Fr. Tsui Kam Yiu. He mentioned that the result of fully democracy in Taiwan without quality politicians had a negative effect to the local economy and civil development. i agreed this point. Another reason i support the proposal is that every process needs milestones, "Rome was not built in one day". In the objectives of long-term prosperity and stability, every major event affecting a city of 7 million people must be progressed gradually and steadily.

i am disappointed by those Legislators who thought they were representing the public, but actually wasted our resources and worked for their own or the communities' benefits.

Root

Last few days, i searched for pictures about animation produced by 宮崎駿, i found that objectives about his company, not to earn money, but to produce animation stories that children would like to watch and able to learn from the stories. He does not eager to make money from the accessaries produced through the movies as he said that many companies in the world have been doing so. And that's the reason that he has insisted not to sell the right to Disney to sell its accessaries to the world.

The director of the company also shares the same values that at any time the company is going to corrupt, it will be by all means that there are plans to grow - he meant to grow bigger like other companies, aggressively in order to generate revenues, sacrifice the quanlity, and most importantly, lost the original objectives of the company... lost the root!

Every one of us must find our roots, cut the bad and rotten roots, find out the good roots from which we have been fed. Without the good roots we will be difficult to grow, we will lose. Thanks Jesus to let me know You. You are my God, my Lord, from whom all good fruits yield.

Bad Values

As globalization is invading the world, many bad values have been also riding on this global wave to harm the local culture of other countries. The bad values include individualism, sexuality, violence, etc. Many merchants and corporations are making profits by producing products and services carrying these bad values. The consequence of bad values have been modeling the value system of this generation in the whole world.

Individualism brings in selfcenterness, no responsibility to family and family system is devastated. Divorce is common by any reason, no commitment, single-parent families generate a lot of teenager problems which are causing countries to break down.

In the openness of sexuality, people are proud of having sex with many different people. A group of peers may share their partners, also share the experience among them. Openness of sexuality seduces the world to commit adultery, like individualism, no responsibilty to family and breaks the concept of family and eventually the country.

Change in Love

Since the baby was born, my wife considers everything first about the baby. In the past she seldom do some household work such as sweeping, now because of the baby, she would do it without any thought. She would do the cleansing at night after the baby was sleeping. She would think a lot of anything about the baby, including, clothes, toys, ....

It is because of her love to the baby make her change, love drives out laziness, self-centerness and creates a heart of dedication, tenderness and sacrifice.

Love & Indulgence

Yesterday, my friends and i went to a restaurant to have tea together. One of my friends told us that according to her experience to teach children, if parents always protect their own children during conflict among children from different families, when the protected boys and girls grew up they will not respect their parents for unfairness, injustice.

When her child gets conflict with others, for example, her boy is playing a toy belonging to her friends' younger girl, the girl comes take away the toy and the boy complains, most parents would immediately say to the boy that the toy belongs to the girl, or you are elder, should let her take it.... But the correct way to handle such situation is to punish our own children but protect others'.

Protect children is to indulge them or to love them, parents can make the difference!

Power of God

Tonight at the annual dinner, i chatted with my friend CN about the work life with this new company. i can see him smile with peace and satisfaction, no rush, no urgency. This recalled me about the hard time when he confessed to God and to his wife in the church about his past of having affairs with another woman. Having passed over this difficult time and some other following difficulties, his life has been changed, from a pagan to a believer, deeply touched and healed by Jesus, our Lord.

When i shared this event with my friend, she said that she felt he has turned from death to life. It is the power of God, to free our heart and mind and spirit. Thanks God, hallelujah!

Model Father

Yesterday morning i went to market to buy fish, meat and vegetables to prepare soup for this week, i carried my baby using a carrier. At the vegetable shop, the hawker weighed the goods that i bought and said i am a model father.

At that moment, i just thought that if i was a model father, then my wife must be a model mother, and every mother taking care of the family must be a model mother. i just off from work at weekend to buy goods but carrying a baby became a 'model father', then mothers work 24 hours a day at home to take care children, relatives, home, everything, how can we say?

Yes, mother is great! Mother sacrifices herself for the family, she is much more than a name of "model mother".
